Threats to Your Freedom

Galatians 5:1-15

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.  Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

Main Idea: When we daily trust in the all sufficiency of Christ to live the Christian life it makes it possible for us to enjoy freedom in this life from religious rules and the enslavement of our flesh.

Threat #1  Following religious rules threatens your

freedom in Christ.

  • Your freedom in Christ flourishes and grows when you do not allow religious rules and regulations to guide you.  5:2-12

  • Freedom comes when you rely on the grace of God daily to obey the truth.5:2-4

  • Freedom comes when you trust in Christ daily to live the Christian life. 5:5-6

  • Freedom comes when you do not allow others to distract you from Christ. 5:7-12

Threat #2  Following fleshly desires threatens your

freedom in Christ.

  • Your freedom in Christ flourishes and grows when you do not allow your fleshly desires to control you. 5:13-15

  • You express your freedom in Christ when you depend upon Him to selflessly love others.  5:13-14

  • You express your freedom in Christ when you depend upon Him for your relationship with others. 5:15

Application:

  • Are there lies you are believing about your relationship with God and how you are to live?
  • Is there something going on in your life that is threatening your freedom in Christ?

Prayer:  Dear God, Please give me the grace to trust Christ more today than I did yesterday in order to live this life of freedom that you have promised me. I thank you that true freedom is found in your Son the Lord Jesus Christ.

Memorize: I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
