The Declaration of Dependence Part 2

John 13-16

“Apart from me you can do nothing.”

 

Part 1  Let’s review:

 

God will do whatever is necessary in your life so that you might bear lasting spiritual fruit for His glory.  15:1-2

 

Your response to the work of God in your life is to live in total dependence on Jesus Christ which will produce lasting spiritual fruit for His glory. 15:3-17

 

  • The fruit of your dependence on Christ is answered prayer. 15:7
  • The fruit of your dependence on Christ is a public witness for Christ. 15:8
  • The fruit of your dependence on Christ is obedience. 15:10, 14
  • The fruit of your dependence on Christ is joy.  15:11
  • The fruit of your dependence on Christ is a new identity. 15:14-15
  • The fruit of your dependence on Christ is loving others sacrificially. 15:9-13, 17

 

Part 2

 

The command of discipleship:  When we are intimately connected to the words of Christ we will                                                                                              . John 13:34-35; John 15:12, 17

 

The cost of discipleship:  When we are intimately connected to the words and works of Christ we will face                                                            form those who do not know Christ.  15:18-25

 

The power of discipleship: When we are intimately connected to the words and works of Christ we are                                                  by the Holy Spirit to live a life of                                                       . John 15:26-27 14:16-17, 26;16:7-15

 

 

Reflection:

  • Are you spending time in the word of God so that the Holy Spirit can guide you and empower you to live a life that is glorifying to God and bears spiritual fruit?
  • Do you find yourself belonging more to this world system or to Christ?
  • Are you loving others well or are you struggling to love sacrificially as Christ has loved you?
