Joyfully Pressing On Toward The Goal, Part 2

Philippians 3:12-4:1

 “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:14

Main idea: Pursuing earthly distractions can dissuade you from knowing Christ and all that he has for you.

  • Following Christ is an active effort that requires                        and                            . 3:12-16
    • Look forward to Christ, not back at your failures.
    • We are called to press on until the end.
    • Spiritual maturity involves consistently aiming our attention on Christ.

 

  • Avoid the temporary                                                of earthly living.  3:17-19
    • Do not allow consuming to consume you.
    • Do not celebrate sinfulness.
    • Do not live a shortsighted life.

 

  • Our goal is not earthly results, but                                                into Christlikeness. 3:20-4:1
    • We strive to be transformed today because heaven is our home.
    • We will be glorified (permanently changed) by Christ’s power.

    Reflection:

    • Do I seek to know Jesus personally and follow him daily?
    • What are the earthly distractions that pull me off course from following Christ?
    • In what ways do I need to know Christ more?
    • Is there a part of myself that needs to be transformed by Christ?
